How To Make A Minion Costume

One of the most characteristic features of minions is the yellow color of their skin. To simulate this yellow skin for our homemade minion costume all we need is a yellow hooded sweater. It is very important that it has a hood so you can cover your head and make the costume more realistic. If you have a jumper but no hood you can use it and then cover your head with a yellow beanie hat. Do not forget to put face paint on the side to cover visible patches of skin with yellow.

Another element which cannot be missing from your minion costume are black gloves. You will likely have a spare pair of simple black winter gloves that you can use for your Carnival or Halloween costume .

Gru has his minions working all day and they use a very characteristic uniform when doing so. Copying the minions' uniform is very simple! You only need to take a pair of denim dungarees and sow a big black G onto the centre of the breast section. You can make the letter from felt, for example. Now you can see how this Halloween or Carnival costume is starting to take shape and resemble a minion.

Making a minion costume is very easy: for the shoes, just use any black pair you already have. If you do not have any black shoes, a trick to work around this is to make a lining for your shoe using black felt.

The first thing that you must do to line the shoes of the minion costume with felt is to take the measurements of the shoe that you want to cover. To do so place the felt on the shoe as tightly as possible and draw the shoe's outline with a marker (not black) . Then cut the black felt and you will see that it looks similar to the shoes used by the minions. To make the process simple do not sow the felt, you can simply attach the edges with Velcro. Cut a short piece of Velcro and using black string sow the male side to the edge of the felt and then the female side to the opposite edge. And... ready! In just a few minutes you will have black shoes for your minion costume.

By now we have almost completed our homemade minion costume , but there are still some key items missing. Amongst them are the hairs on the head. This is very easy, simply take three or four black pipe cleaners and cut them in half. Once cut you can shape them or leave them straight up, as you prefer as each of the minions has its hair placed differently. When they are shaped, sow them to the hood of the sweatshirt or yellow hat. The hair is now ready! We nearly have our Halloween costume done, only the final step to go.

The glasses are the final touch needed to finish our minion costume and a key element to complete the look. You can buy these in a costume shop or alternatively make them yourself. To make them yourself you only need some cardboard, silver paint, a stapler and some black elastic. Cut two long cardboard strips. Take one of the strips and brining the two ends together make a circle and staple it in place. Do the same with the other strip. Then paint the two spheres with silver paint.

Once the paint is dry bring the two spheres together and staple them through the middle so that they are attached, just like the minions'. When this is done, cut the black elastic to fit the size of your head or to the size of whoever will be wearing the costume. Staple the extremes of the elastic to each of the spheres to complete your minion glasses.

Really fast and easy! In just a short time you can make your homemade minion costume, ideal for Halloween or Carnival. If you are a group of friends or want to dress up your whole family, you can create several Minion costume charaters!
