Independence Day is celebrated in India every year on 15th August. It is a public holiday in the country, and everyone can be seen in the mood of joy and celebration. A National celebration is held by hoisting the Indian flag on the Red Fort (Delhi), followed by a speech by the Indian President. Thousands of Indian people attend the ceremony, and take part in the happiness of gaining independence for their country.

Each and every house on every street of India can be seen laden with hoisted Indian flags. Even the vehicles that run on roads can be seen decorated with Indian flags made of paper or cloth. Every shop decorates using tri-color ribbons and balloons. Some people may also choose to wear tri-color clothes to show their happiness for Indian independence.

As 15th August is a national holiday, almost every Indian school celebrates this day one day before, that is 14th August. Cute children take part in cultural activities in their school, followed by flat hoisting by their principal or a chief guest, and an inspiring speech.

You can see children and adults mounted on their rooftops since early morning, flying kites, many of which are also made with three colors of the Indian flag. The fly kites, cut each others’, and shout at the top of their voice at each win or loss.

You can hear patriotic songs coming from loudspeakers that are mounted on almost every street corner. You may also see people dancing on the tunes, and showing their feelings of love for their country.

With all these and much more, the entire atmosphere of India becomes patriotic and nation loving on every 15th August. Almost each and every corner seems to be covered with three colors of the Indian flag, that is orange, white and green.
