Berlin

Berlin livens up as a party destination and is top on our list of European New Year’s Eve destinations. If you are a night club fan then don’t even dare to miss Berghain which is Berlin’s iconic nightclub. Or else, visit the Brandenburger Gate where foods, drinks, party tents, light and laser shows extends up to more than 2 kilometers.

If you are not satiated with the fun and enjoyment of night then visit Teufelsberg in the afternoon where a 6.3 kilometer pancake race is held, known as Silvesterlauf.

Budapest

Szilveszter is the Hungarian word for New Year’s Eve which you should know if you are visiting Budapest, the capital of Hungary, on New Year’s Eve. Transport around the capital city goes on for whole night. So, no matter in which corner of the capital city you are, you are sure to reach home.

But before heading for home do not miss to visit Vorosmarty Square where New Year celebration goes on for three days i.e. from 30 Dec to 1st Jan. Three days of partying hard is bound to give you hangover. To cure your hangover try the well known delicacy Kocsonya which is made from pig’s feet.

Bonne Année! That’s how you greet each other on New Year in Paris. The city of light swarms with crowd on the eve of New Year. Huge crowd gather at the Champs – Elysées which provides the surreal view of lighted Eiffel Tower. You can try some special festive dishes like Christmas Log, duckling breast, scallop ceviche etc. For a surprise try Papilottes chocolates which creates a pop sound when you tear off its wrapping.

Copenhagen

You can visit Copenhagen in Denmark during the New Year to celebrate its unique rituals amidst lots of fun. Visit Amalienborg Square to watch the Royal Guard Parade or visit the Town Hall Square where on the strike of midnight the tower bell chimes along with spectacular firework shows.

You will witness some unique rituals like people smashing plates on the door of other people which is believed to bring good luck. You can witness another unique ritual if you are indoor with a Danish family. This ritual involves jumping off a chair which symbolizes the leap into the New Year.

Fireworks at the bank of the River Thames can take anyone’s breath away. So, if you are in London on New Year’s Eve visit the Millban Tower from where you can enjoy a 360 degree view of London. You can also get a view of firework from the Cannon Street, as there are thousands people that gather in the center to celebrate the New Year, it is advisable to get there several hours before midnight and refrain from going if you don't like crowds. Also you can enjoy the New Year’s Day Parade where 10,000 participants march along with drum beats from the famous Ritz to Parliament Square.

Amsterdam

Amsterdam is a riot on the eve of New Year. Champagne, oliebollen (fried blobs of dough, apple and raisins) and fireworks take the center stage. You will find everyone on the street enjoying themselves to the fullest. Visit Niuwmarket and Dam Square for ultimate fun. The largest techno event of the country is held on the eve of New Year. So, don’t forget to visit Gashouder to enjoy ‘Awakenings’.

Also take care as people smash Champagne bottles on New Year.
