The Red Dress

The striking red dress of Uhura is a simple A-line dress. It can be bought from any clothing store. Make sure that the red dress has short sleeves with a round neck.

The length of the dress worn by Zoe Saldana is not too short as opposed to the extremely short dress worn by Nichelle Nicholas while playing Uhura. So, a mid-thigh length A-line red dress will work fine.

If you can’t find a red A-line dress then you can opt for a plain red men’s t-shirt which is at least twice as big as your size. This will ensure that its length is not too short. For a better fit you can sew the sides of the t-shirt around the waist region.

The Turtleneck

In the Star Trek movie the neck of Zoe Saldana’s dress had a turtleneck feature in black. So, the next item to buy would be a thin, black, sleeveless, turtleneck crop top. Wear this crop top underneath the red dress to get the Uhura look.

Star Trek Badge

The most striking thing in Uhura’s simple red dress was the inverted V shaped badge.

To make the badge, buy some shiny silver fabric. Then cut the fabric in the shape of badge. With a black marker draw the Science and Engineering mark in it. Finally glue the badge on the red dress with some glue.

That’s it. Your Star Trek’s Uhura costume is now complete.
